UNC-Wilmington Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available at UNCW.  They have been generously donated in honor of individuals or organizations.  Each of these scholarships has specific and unique criteria.  While some are available to one or more students each academic year, others are renewable and only become available after the current recipient has graduated or becomes ineligible for the scholarship.  Because competition for scholarships is intense, merit scholarships are usually available only to the most outstanding new freshmen and continuing students.  The value of the scholarship will be determined based on annual earnings.

The UNC- Greensboro Guarantee is a scholarship program

-  for high-achieving graduating seniors in North Carolina, whose families are of a low-socioeconomic status. This scholarship allows those chosen for the program to attend college without much financial burden and covers 4 years of debt free (or very little debt) education- including tuition, room and board. The basic qualifications are listed below.

  • Have been admitted to UNCG at the time of applying
  • North Carolina resident for tuition purposes
  • Received a combined SAT score of a 1000 or above on the Critical Reading and Mathematics sections or an ACT composite score of 21 or above
  • Have a family income that does not exceed 100% of the federal poverty level (a good indicator of students who may qualify are those who are on free or reduced lunch at school)
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and qualify for federal student financial aid- (The priority filing deadline for UNCG is March 1!)
  • Pursuing a first undergraduate degree
  • Graduated from high school within the past eight months of your first enrollment at UNCG
  • Be enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours) during the regular academic year
The Guarantee is much more than just financial assistance. This program provides built-in co-curricular opportunities for scholars to engage in community service, leadership development, and career development over their four years.

Our students tend to be retained at a higher rate than those not in the Guarantee program, and tend to have higher GPAs than their peers. We also have many students in the Honors College at UNCG!

If you have any students that you believe may be qualified for this amazing opportunity, please encourage them to apply today! You can apply online athttp://guarantee.uncg.edu/apply/online.shtml. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until April 30th, 2013 at 5pm.
